The Straight Scoop:
- Imran Awan, a Pakistani born IT Consultant who worked for several members of the House of Representatives since 2004, was arrested by the FBI on Tuesday, July 25th attempting to leave the country.
- Awan was taken in to custody at Dulles International Airport in Washington, DC on the charge of bank fraud. Court records show he fraudulently obtained a $165,000 home equity loan from the Congressional Federal Credit Union and then wired $283,000 to two people in Faisalabad, Pakistan.
- Awan was subsequently fired by Debbie Wasserman Schultz after the arrest.
- Awan rented his home to a Marine veteran and his family who subsequently found smashed laptops, hard drives and routers inside. Awan tried to recover the equipment before leaving, but the renters turned them over to the FBI.
